• 4+ years of experience in designing and operating fault-tolerant and scalable systems

• excellent understanding of public cloud environments

• experience with container technologies and orchestrators (Kubernetes, Docker)

• strong scripting abilities

• solid experience with continuous integration, deployment, and operations

• readiness to address reliability issues with passion and proactivity (24/7, alarm-based mode)

• strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem analysis skills

• experience with disaster recovery procedures and process

Who are we and what do we do?

VELAS is a Swiss company building decentralized applications that help users with everyday tasks. We operate globally, with our main office in Kyiv and marketing team in Switzerland. Our core audience has historically been in Asia, but our products are used worldwide.

We develop products supporting free expression, rewards for social activity, anonymity and security. We believe in freedom of information and actively contribute to open source, making our developments publicly available.

We have many plans. Some projects currently in development include:

Vortex

A decentralized video platform with transparent monetization, anonymity and free speech, using blockchain for speed and security.

Velas Account

A single entry point for every ecosystem service, similar to Sign in with Google but across our own services.

VelaSphere

Distributed computing and file storage to accelerate projects at any scale.

Why are we doing this?

We believe some services take censorship and content policies too far: videos can be blocked without warning, social posts can lead to account suspension, and other posts can be hidden. We believe information should be freely available, with the community deciding what content to hide.

How do we do it?

We develop our own high-speed blockchain, the architectural foundation of all our projects. We use a modern stack because speed and functionality matter to us.

Is English required, and at what level?

Only for reading technical documentation. We have no external clients, and discussions take place in our Kyiv office. We sometimes call the Swiss team; speaking English with them is welcome but optional.

Why is the position open?

We are building our own ecosystem, with many projects to deliver. We need experienced, proactive people to help us move faster.

Team size and structure?

30 employees: 50% technical specialists and 50% marketing, finance, support and HR.

Where are the technical decision-makers based?

In Kyiv, all in the same office.

Working conditions:

• Probation period: 3 months.

• Flexible working hours, primarily 11:00–20:00. The main meeting is at 14:00, as agreed by the teams. Availability 24/7 is expected. All necessary equipment is provided.

• Remote work is possible, as is office attendance. Employees usually work remotely 1–2 days a week.

• Vacation: 21 working days, excluding weekends and public holidays.

• Paid sick leave: 21 days per year.

• International business travel is unlikely. Attendance at training seminars and conferences is possible.

• No additional benefits package or medical insurance.

Hiring process:

• Interviews are in Russian or Ukrainian, not English.

• The CTO reviews CVs.

• 2 interview stages: HR interview and CTO interview.
